Buying a House - Advice Please
Have been renting since the missus cleaned me out a while back but have come into some money (250k) - which will buy me a bang average house round where I live. So

a) Is a good time to buy right now ?

b) Should I just buy something outright or put the majority down and then get a small mortgage in order to get something better (bearing in mind I'm 55 and don't earn loads

I think you'd be mental to buy a house right now

Look at the thread few days back about how to invest 20k and turn the 250k into half a mil

House prices are topping out.

Hold fire till the outcome of the B word negotiations to see what effect it has on house prices, I'm hoping they come down.

Fuck that.
If i was 55 and had £250k I'd fuck off and travel the world.

Market definitely flattening out this year and not really moving in any direction. Will they go down though? I doubt it. Forecasts predicted 2017 to be fairly flat whilst increasing again in 2018 & 2019.

Waiting for Brexit negotiations could take anything upto 2 years.

I remember talking to a black cabbie who was retiring....had already paid for his beachside villa in the philippines (£20k) and already had a wife and mistress out there. Sounded like a plan to me.

Go to vegas, shove it all on black, then buy a bigger house. Or do what Defjam said.....

Re: Buying a House - Advice Please
Overall, house prices are always going to increase. If you buy a house now will it be worth more in 2 years? maybe not. Will it be worth more in ten years? Of course it will, quite considerably more. The country is over populated and starved of houses.

Even last year after brexit referendum everyone predicted house prices to fall sharply, but they continued to do the exact opposite.

I was going to suggest something similar. Buy a place somewhere cheap and warm and retire.

Isn't it a bit dodgy to buy abroad?
I was going to buy in Thailand or somewhere but decided to spunk the lot travelling.
Thailand seemed too volatile at the time as i thought it would kick off when the king died.

If you need a house. Find one and buy one.
If you don't use the 250 on sex, drugs and rock n roll.

Re: Buying a House - Advice Please
You cant as a foreigner buy in Thailand. You have to marry a local, who can always buy it, divorce you, and walk away.

That's the most sensible answer. Buying houses are long term investments, unless you do them up and sell them on.

Small island large population and growing equals only one thing..

Single bloke no commitments equals go travel.

Buy that house or flat with very small mortgage, rent it and use the income to pay for your travel.

Re: Buying a House - Advice Please
Use someone else's money at 1.5% to pay for your house or multiple houses and use the bulk of your cash to follow your dreams.
